Logan Sargeant is targeting campaigns in multiple sports car series in different cars next year following his return to competition in the final two rounds of this year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The former Williams Formula 1 driver had been due to return to sports cars this year with a drive in the European Le Mans Series as part of the IDEC-run Genesis Magma Racing squad but withdrew on the eve of the season’s start.

He instead tackled the LMP2 class of the WeatherTech Championship in an Oreca 07 Gibson with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports, taking a best result of fourth in class at the ten-hour Motul Petit Le Mans finale.

Sargeant was then drafted in to the Proton Competition Ford Mustang GT3 for the FIA World Endurance Championship’s rookie test in Bahrain and the American was second among the LMGT3 runners in the morning session.

He said that racing the Mustang GT3 is one potential route he is considering for 2026.

“It was a good opportunity to drive a GT car – I haven’t done so for four years now [when he made two appearances in an Iron Lynx Ferrari 488 GT3] so I was excited to just jump in,” Sargeant told Sportscar365 of the test.

“As I said recently, I’m open to driving anything and it’s been a good start to the day.”

Asked about his future plans, Sargeant said the LMP2 outings have “definitely helped” to progress talks with various teams and he has been linked with continuing in the LMP2 ranks of the WeatherTech Championship next season.

“Things are looking OK, options are on the table so we’re just working our way through them and here obviously testing so will see what the future can hold,” he said.

“I would like to do a little bit of everything, which is always good to be in multiple different cars, multiple championships, learning tracks and just staying ready for whatever comes.”

Sargeant was encouraged by his performance in the opening rookie test session when he set a time four-tenths adrift of morning pacesetter Tom Fleming in a Manthey Porsche 911 GT3 R.

“It was OK, obviously Bahrain is always an interesting one with how high the temps are and the abrasiveness of the track and the degradation,” he said. “Nonetheless good to drive and good to be back at a track I know.”
