Former Williams Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant is due to test a Proton Competition Ford Mustang GT3 as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship rookie test in Bahrain.
Sargeant was confirmed in the latest version of the entry list that was released ahead of Saturday’s season-ending 8 Hours of Bahrain.
The American was due to make a sports car switch after losing his Williams F1 drive last season and had been slated to drive for the IDEC-run Genesis Magma Racing LMP2 entry in the European Le Mans Series this year.
But, on the eve of the season beginning, it was announced Sargeant was stepping back from the drive to “pursue other interests.”
He subsequently made a return to competition in the final two rounds of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at the wheel of the No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports’ Oreca 07 Gibson in the LMP2 class.
At the time, Sargeant said he had “no long-term” goal beyond those two events but will now sample one of Proton’s Mustang GT3s alongside fellow American Eric Powell.
Powell already drives a Mustang GT3 in GT World Challenge America powered by AWS with Dollahite Racing, while Proton regular Giorgio Roda is also due to get behind the wheel.
Further additions to the rookie lineup include rising Dutch star Robert de Haan in the privateer Proton Porsche 963.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed extensive success in one-make Porsche categories, including winning the German Carrera Cup title this season.
Iron Lynx has also named its driver roster for its pair of Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evos.
The No. 60 car will be sampled by Asian Le Mans Series driver Johannes Zelger and Optimum McLaren GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS contender Mikey Porter, while the sister No. 61 machine will be tried by departing TF Sport Corvette driver Tom van Rompuy, current United Autosports McLaren racer Sean Gelael and GTWC Europe Bronze Marcelo Tomasoni.
It is understood there could still be further additions to the entry list among cars that only have existing drivers already listed against them.
The rookie test will comprise two sessions, the first starting at 10 a.m. local time and running until noon (2-4 a.m. ET), while the second session will run from 1 to 4 p.m. (5-8 a.m. ET).
