Fabio Scherer suffered a fractured foot in his early-race collision with the No. 33 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R en route to winning the LMP2 class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Inter Europol Competition.

The Swiss driver underwent medical evaluation on Monday night, the day after he and co-drivers Jakub Smiechowski and Albert Costa beat Team WRT to victory in the centenary edition of the French endurance classic.

Checks revealed that Scherer suffered ligament damage and an incomplete fracture to his mid-left foot as a result of the contact with Nicky Catsburg’s Corvette.

The incident occurred in the opening stages of the race on Saturday, when Catsburg collided with Scherer in the pits after the Swiss driver had handed the No. 34 Oreca 07 Gibson over to Smiechowski.

Scherer fought through the injury, still using his left foot to brake while applying ice and receiving massages between stints to continue racing.

During driver changes, the 24-year-old could be seen hopping towards the car on his right leg for the remainder of the race.

Inter Europol wrote on Twitter that Scherer is currently in “some pain” and walking on crutches.

A team spokesperson told Sportscar365 that Scherer has resumed training and will compete at the next FIA World Endurance Championship round at Monza.

The Le Mans victory has propelled into Inter Europol to second place in the LMP2 standings, just four points down on the No. 41 Team WRT crew of Rui Andrade, Robert Kubica and Louis Deletraz.
