6H Spa Extended Following Lengthy Red Flag

The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps has been extended following the red flag that brought the race to a halt in the penultimate hour.

The race was suspended with one hour and 47 minutes left on the clock after the huge crash on the Kemmel Straight involving Earl Bamber’s Cadillac and Sean Gelael’s BMW.

Repairs to the barriers and catch fencing at the scene of the crash commenced shortly after the race was stopped, but as the clock ticked down it became increasingly unlikely that the work would be completed in time.

However, with 11 minutes remaining of the original race time, which was due to conclude at 7 p.m. local time (1 p.m. EDT), it was announced by race control that the race would be extended by the duration of the red flag.

The race is due to resume at 7:10 p.m. (1:10 p.m. EDT) and will run for a further one hour and 44 minutes.

Leading the field at the restart will be the No. 51 Ferrari 499P of Alessandro Pier Guidi, ahead of the sister No. 50 Ferrari of Antonio Fuoco and the Proton Competition Porsche 963 of Neel Jani.
