The winners of next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans will be presented with a special trophy to mark the centenary of the French endurance classic.
Event organizer the Automobile Club de l’Ouest presented the 24 Hours of Le Mans Centenary Trophy at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Saturday.
The spiral-shaped award, which is made of bronze and stands 1.5 meters tall, has been produced by the Paris Mint with support from Rolex.
It includes a ‘100 years’ motif on part of the spiral, while the base includes the names of previous Le Mans winners, dating back to the inaugural staging in 1923.
As part of the 24H Le Mans centenary celebrations, the trophy will be taken on an international tour to various motorsport and automotive events.
Its first stop after Pebble Beach will be the Goodwood Revival Meeting on Sep. 16-18, followed by the Chantilly Arts & Elegance event in France the following weekend.
The trophy will then be displayed at the 8 Hours of Bahrain on Nov. 12, on the occasion of this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship season finale.
It is then due to appear at the Retromobile Show in Paris on Feb. 1-5 next year, followed by The Ice at St. Moritz Concours d’Elegance in Switzerland on Feb. 25.
The ACO also announced during the Monterey Car Werk that a special car auction will take place at next year’s Le Mans edition, featuring “one-of-a-kind vehicles” sold in partnership with the Sotheby’s auction house.
The first confirmed item is a Lancia LC2, chassis No. 0005, which contested the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1984 and 1985
