The ‘Super Sebring’ double-header weekend between the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will return on March 18-21 next year.

It comes after the WEC confirmed the return of the 1000 Miles of Sebring on the third weekend in March, which is the slot traditionally taken up by the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on the IMSA calendar.

The WEC round will take place on Friday, March 20, before the IMSA race on Saturday, March 21, in a similar set up to the inaugural double-header event held earlier this year.

IMSA president Scott Atherton previously suggested that it would take something “unforeseen” to prevent the spectacle from happening again, after the 2019 edition generated a record crowd.

It’s understood that there are hopes to streamline some of the commercial processes that made this year’s ‘Super Sebring’ operate at a financial loss for the sanctioning bodies and Sebring International Raceway.

“The 2019 Super Sebring weekend exceeded expectations by every measure, and we look forward to working with the World Endurance Championship and Sebring Raceway staffs to enhance the experience in 2020 for everyone involved,” said Atherton.

WEC CEO Gerard Neveu commented: “The Sebring event this year was greatly enjoyed by competitors and fans alike, and it’s a real pleasure to come together again with our partners at IMSA and Sebring Raceway to put on an even better show for 2020.”

Sebring International Raceway president and general manager Wayne Estes added that “a tremendous amount of work” went into the inaugural event, and that the aim for 2020 will be “to surpass the milestones established this year”.

The WEC race date is subject to approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, which holds its next meeting during the 24 Hours of Le Mans weekend on June 14.

The full IMSA WeatherTech schedule is usually released during the annual ‘State of the Series’ address held at Road America in early August.

Ticket and schedule information for the 2020 Sebring weekend will be announced “in the near future”.
