Fernando Alonso set the fastest lap in a rain-affected second practice session for the Six Hours of Spa that included a crash for the FP1-topping SMP Racing car at Blanchimont.

Stephane Sarrazin was behind the wheel of the No. 17 BR Engineering BR1 AER, which set the fastest time earlier in the day in the hands of Sergey Sirotkin, when it reportedly aquaplaned off in tricky conditions.

The car was put on a flatbed truck and taken back to the paddock while Sarrazin walked away from the accident.

A total of three red flags came out in an eventful session that also saw the No. 82 BMW M8 GTE and the No. 50 Larbre Competition Ligier JS P217 Gibson stop on-track.

Alonso topped the timesheets with a time of 2:19.483 aboard the No. 8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid, as the Japanese manufacturer set the top-two fastest laps.

Mike Conway’s 2:20.865 effort put the No. 7 Toyota 1.3 seconds off Alonso’s ultimate pace, while SMP Racing’s No. 11 car lapped third in the hands of Vitaly Petrov.

Petrov shot to the top of the order a couple of times before the Toyotas eclipsed the Russian driver’s best time of 2:21.429.

Rebellion Racing placed fourth and fifth, ahead of the ByKolles Racing ENCO CLM P1/01 Gibson which spent some time of the head of the field after a string of quick laps from Tom Dillmann.

Pastor Maldonado led the way in the LMP2 class for DragonSpeed’s Oreca 07 Gibson, ahead of the Orecas of TDS Racing and the No. 37 Jackie Chan DC Racing crew.

In GTE-Pro, Marco Sorensen’s early marker of 2:32.648 in the No. 95 Aston Martin Vantage GTE held out as the quickest with the rain falling consistently throughout the 90-minute session.

The No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR lapped three tenths behind in second ahead of the other Aston Martin and the two AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTEs.

Fastest in GTE-Am was Matt Campbell in the No. 77 Dempsey Proton Racing Porsche on a 2:34.093.
