Toyota has announced that Esteban Masson will try out its GR010 Hybrid Le Mans Hypercar in the FIA World Endurance Championship rookie test in Bahrain.

Masson, 20, has been handed the chance off the back of a strong first full season in sports cars that has encompassed full seasons in the WEC with the Toyota-affiliated Akkodis ASP team and in the European Le Mans Series with Kessel Racing.

He has scored two wins in the ELMS’ LMGT3 class together with Takeshi Kimura and Daniel Serra in Kessel’s Ferrari 296 GT3, finishing second in the final standings.

In the WEC, Masson has been part of the lineup for the No. 87 Lexus RC F GT3 alongside Kimura and Jose Maria Lopez, scoring a top-ten finish in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Toyota’s full lineup for the one-day rookie test on Nov. 3 remains unclear, but Reshad de Gerus is scheduled to drive for the Hypercar title-winning manufacturer after being selected by the WEC organizer as one of its two officially nominated drivers.

Masson joins the likes of Theo Pourchaire and Clement Novalak (Peugeot), Victor Martins (Alpine) and Arthur Leclerc (Ferrari) in having been confirmed to participate in the test.

A full entry list is expected to be published by the WEC later this week.
