Lamborghini factory driver Mirko Bortolotti will spearhead Barwell Motorsport’s entry for January’s Hankook 24 Hours of Dubai, in a Pro class entry aimed to fight for overall victory.

Announced on Tuesday, the Italian will be joined by Adrian Amstutz, Rolf Ineichen and Rik Breukers at the wheel of the team’s Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo.

The same lineup — then run by Grasser Racing Team — finished fourth in this year’s 24H Series season-opener.

The 2022 edition of the race will mark Barwell’s return to the event since last contesting it in 2020, a race that that was red flagged after only seven hours due to flooding from a rain storm.

“The Team has an important history with the brand and has been part of the Lamborghini family since the beginning of the Huracan GT3 project,” said Bortolotti. “It’s fantastic to finally get the opportunity to work together as well as to share the car with Adrian, Rolf and Rik in Dubai again.”

Team principal Mark Lemmer added: “We know the car goes well there and the driver lineup is very strong and proven.

“Adrian is already a long-standing successful part of the Barwell family of course, Rik has driven for us before at the Spa 24 Hours and claimed a Silver Cup podium, and it’s great to welcome Rolf and Mirko to the team.

“Bortolotti is a Lamborghini legend, and it will be very exciting to see what he can do in a Barwell car.”

The twice-around-the-clock enduro is scheduled for Jan 14-15.
