FIA Grants 24H Series International Status for 2015

January’s 10th anniversary Hankook 24 Hours of Dubai will mark the start of a new championship, as the FIA has awarded Creventic’s 24H Series full international status that will take effect in 2015.

The FIA approved the Dutch agency’s application during last week’s World Motor Sport Council meeting in Doha, which will see the six-round series award championship points for drivers, teams as well as a special Ladies Cup.

“We are delighted with this news, because it gives another boost to our rapidly growing series,” said Creventic’s Gerrie Willems, who along with the Dutch National Racing Team, will act as organizer and promoter of 24H Series powered by Hankook.

“We would like to express our thanks to everyone involved in this process, especially to the Dutch national federation KNAF, who have been instrumental in this next step in our development.”

A total of 95 cars are now expected for the season-opener in Dubai, with the majority of the equipment having been departed from Rotterdam last week via sea freight. Additionally, Motors TV has confirmed it will provide full 24-hour coverage of the race for the first time.

While the circuits for the inaugural 2015 schedule have been confirmed, there could be up to two date changes, with negotiations underway to move the 12 Hours of Zandvoort and 12 Hours of Hungary to different dates in order to avoid clashes with other European endurance races.
