Wallis Motorsport has received a boost ahead of next month’s GT Festival at The Bend with Ford Performance Junior Team driver Jenson Altzman to join Jack Wallis for the fifth round of the Monochrome GT4 Australia season.
Having contested two of the four rounds, Wallis piloted the team’s Ford Mustang GT4 alongside father Adam and uncle Jed in what was a family affair, with Altzman’s acquisition a statement of intent for the South Australian team.
Although the event will mark Altzman’s official debut in Australia, it won’t be his first time competing outside of the U.S. with the California-born driver boasting a solid amount of experience behind the wheel.
Graduating from karting in 2021, it only took Altzman a couple of years to prove his emerging talent as his relationship with Ford Performance began in 2023, where he and McCumbee McAleer Racing completed their maiden GT4 campaign together.
Altzman has collected numerous podiums throughout his three years racing the Mustang GT4 – his most recent being in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Competition at Road America earlier this month.
The 23-year-old is the first Ford Performance Junior Team driver to have also experienced the full Mustang sports car racing lineup this season, which includes Dark Horse R in the Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational and a WeatherTech SportsCar Championship sprint campaign in Mustang GT3.
The partnership came about thanks to Andrew Miedecke, who introduced the two parties following GT Festival Sandown.
“The opportunities I’ve had this year have allowed me to showcase what the Ford Performance Junior Team program has to offer up-and-coming drivers. From the Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational with Dark Horse R, Mustang GT3 and now to compete with Mustang GT4 in Australia, it is telling of how proven this platform is globally,” said Altzman.
“Wallis Motorsport has already been so welcoming, and it’s been a pleasure strategizing and preparing for The Bend with Adam [Wallis] and Jack [Wallis].
“It seems like a great fit already, and I’m excited to compete in the top-level Silver class with them. I cannot thank George and Andrew Miedecke enough for facilitating this opportunity.”
“It’ll be an exciting challenge to jump right into the weekend with no testing and with a new tire.
“I know the Mustang GT4 quite well, and the pressure of getting up to speed quickly will be exhilarating – similarly to what I had to do in Le Mans for the Mustang Challenge invitational round.
“I want to use my knowledge of Mustang GT4 to help lead Wallis Motorsport to a great result.”
The pair will likely meet up just before next month’s GT Festival at The Bend before driving together for the first time during the event’s opening practice session on the Friday morning, where they will run in the competitive Silver Class, with Jack moving from the Silver-Am Cup, where he has run in his two previous rounds.
GT4 Australia returns next month with GT Festival at The Bend at Shell VPower Motorsport Park on Sept. 5-7.
