Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie entrant PROSport Racing has revealed that former FIA GT1 World Championship racer Marc Hennerici will take over as managing director from next week.
The squad announced at the end of last year that founder Chris Esser would be stepping back as team principal for the upcoming season, when it is returning to the Mercedes-AMG fold.
Esser’s replacement Hennerici has racing experience in a variety of different categories, including winning the FIA World Touring Car Championship independents’ title in 2005 and driving Corvette C6.R and Ford GT1 machinery in the FIA GT World Championship.
Alongside his racing, the German has also served as managing director of ADAC Travel & Event Mittelrhein GmbH through which he has organized and developed various motorsport events.
“I am very pleased that we were able to find a competent successor for me in Marc Hennerici,” said Esser.
“Marc not only brings the necessary motorsport expertise, but also has the required leadership experience and organizational talent.
“Of course, it is not easy for me to hand over my baby PROsport Racing, but I will continue to support the team as an advisor.”
Hennerici added: “PROsport Racing stands today on a very solid foundation, which Chris Esser built over many years with great passion and consistency.
“I have great respect for this lifetime achievement and look forward to building on this foundation with the team and pursuing ambitious sporting goals in the future.
“This new role allows me to bring together everything that has accompanied me for almost four decades – my experience in motorsport and the joy of taking on responsibility and actively shaping the sporting and economic development.”
More details of PROsport Racing’s programs will be revealed in the coming weeks.
