Taylor, Morris to Make Series Return at Queensland

Scott Taylor has confirmed he will make a return to the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS field at Queensland Raceway next month.

A longtime competitor and supporter of local motorsport, Taylor will be on board his GT Trophy Class Porsche 997 GT3 R for the series’ third round of the season and has called upon Bathurst ‘triple crown’ winner Paul Morris to co-drive with him.

Taylor is no stranger to the 997 GT3 R, having competed in two rounds of Fanatec GT Australia during the 2022 season, including his home event at Queensland Raceway and the VAILO Adelaide 500.

Success came to Taylor in both rounds when he took a GT Trophy class race win in Queensland and a podium result in Adelaide.

Taylor has since dabbled in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, Combined Sedans and featured as part of a Aussie Racing Cars field in Townsville earlier this month.

Morris is known for his versatile racing style and driver coaching, and is looking forward to jumping back behind the wheel of a GT race car.

Morris has competed in a variety of sports car events during his illustrious career, including the Bathurst 24 Hour races (Ferrari and Porsche) and the Sandown 500 when it was held under GT regulations (2001 in a Ferrari with John Teulan).

He also raced an Aston Martin at the Adelaide street circuit in 2012, a handful of GT4 events, plus raced a Mercedes-AMG for Kenny Habul at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2017.

“I love this Porsche,” said Taylor.

“It just has so much mechanical grip, it’s old school, it’s loud, it’s everything, but I can feel that car 10 times over what I can feel in any late-model aero model.

“The GT category is on a rise. It would be fair to say that GTs have had a less favourable couple of years, but in more recent years, it’s had bigger grids and it’s great to see that the community is back and being involved in the class.

“It’s pretty cool to have all the different brands and models racing in GT too.

“The way that the category is being presented has really stepped up as well. It has been done a lot better in its current format with everyone is enjoying it.

“I love GT racing.”
