Billy Johnson will complete the Blancpain GT World Challenge America season for Alegra Motorsports, replacing Michael de Quesada in one of its Porsche 911 GT3 Rs.
The Californian made several starts as an additional driver throughout Ford Chip Ganassi Racing’s FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship programs, and has primarily competed in Ford Mustang GT4s so far this year.
He will join Daniel Morad for the rest of the GT World Challenge America season, starting next weekend at Watkins Glen before further races at Road America and Las Vegas.
De Quesada, who has scored four top-five finishes so far this year, will step aside to focus on his studies at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Fla.
“I’m excited to drive with Daniel in the No. 22 Alegra Porsche,” said Johnson.
“I have worked with and have known the team for a very long time and some team members throughout my entire career, so it kind of feels like a homecoming even though I have not officially competed in a race for them.
“Daniel and I have been friends for a while and I think we have a strong driver, car, and team paring to finish out the season. I’m thankful to Carlos and the entire team for asking me to fill in.”
