Memo Gidley will start this afternoon’s GT America powered by AWS race at Road America from the pole position, putting SKI Autosports on top for the 40-minute sprint race.
Gidley reeled off a best lap of 2:05.989 in his No. 56 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II, which was 0.355 seconds slower than the No. 11 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R of Blake McDonald in Saturday morning’s qualifying session.
However, McDonald is not slated to take part in either GT America race this weekend, having used the two practice sessions and qualifying as preparation for his GT World Challenge America powered by AWS effort.
Ross Chouest is set to line up alongside Gidley on the front row in the No. 50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Corvette, with the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R of Kyle Washington starting third.
The No. 2 Racers Edge Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo of Justin Bell will start fourth.
Justin Rothberg set the sixth quickest time but will start from the rear of the expected six-car starting field due to an adjustment in his Bronze* driver rating derogation this weekend, which sees the driver have a five-position grid penalty.
Rothberg has effectively only lost one position on the grid, to the No. 20 FASTMD with Remstar Audi R8 LMS of Farhan Siddiqi, which will now start fifth.
Race 1 takes the green flag at 1:10 p.m. CST with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
