Justin Rothberg ended Friday’s GT America powered by AWS action at Virginia International Raceway on top, with the Turner Motorsport driver leading the way in both practice sessions.
Rothberg improved on his chart-topping 1:48.042 from the morning session to go nearly seven-tenths quicker in the warmer afternoon conditions, having reeled off a 1:47.303 lap time in his No. 29 BMW M4 GT3.
It was 0.163 seconds quicker than the No. 27 CRP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Jason Daskalos, who made a late-session improvement.
Johnny O’Connell set the third quickest time in the No. 3 SKI Autosports Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II, with Jason Bell and Ross Chouest completing the top-five in their Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo and Mercedes-AMGs, respectively.
The GT4 class was led by the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport of Curt Swearingin, thanks to a 1:56.051 lap time.
Gray Newell slotted in second for Heart of Racing Team, with Damir Hot third in the No. 05 Flying Lizard Motorsports Nissan Z NISMO GT4.
Qualifying is set to get underway Saturday at 8:05 a.m. EDT, with Race 1 taking the green flag at 1 p.m., which will be streamed live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
