Justin Rothberg claimed pole position for Friday’s penultimate GT America powered by AWS round of the season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, keeping his SRO3 class title hopes alive.
The Turner Motorsport driver, who holds an outside chance of securing the season-long championship, reeled off a best lap of 1:24.413 in his No. 29 BMW M4 GT3 to edge out the No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of James Sofronas by 0.282 seconds.
Johnny O’Connell, who trails championship leader Jason Daskalos by 18 points, qualified third in his No. 3 SKI Autosports Audi, followed by Mirco Schultis’ Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R in fourth.
Daskalos, in his No. 27 CRP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, could only muster the fifth best time, ahead of Kyle Washington’s No. 32 GMG Porsche 911 GT3 R in sixth.
GT2 saw Dan Knox take his Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT2 to top qualifying honors, while GT4 champion-elect Isaac Sherman picked up another class pole in his No. 098 Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
