Mike David Ortmann and Braydon Arthur came out on top in Sunday’s Pirelli GT4 America season finale at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, following late-race contact between the two leaders in the 60-minute mixed-condition contest.
Pro-Am class championship honors, meanwhile, went to Random Vandals Racing’s Sam Craven and Josh Green.
Ortmann took the No. 4 JMF Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage GT4 Evo to a 1.031-second win over a recovering Kevin Boehm in the No. 97 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4 EVO.
It came after Ortmann’s teammate Jesse Webb, made contact with the then race-leading Boehm, resulting in a drive-through penalty for Webb with less than ten minutes to go.
Boehm, who along with co-driver Kenton Koch clinched the Silver class championship on Saturday, ended up in a close second.
The No. 47 Nolasport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport of Matheus Leist led from the pole once green flag action began on Lap 3 following a safety car start due to rain, although lost the overall lead after co-driver Matt Travis climbed aboard the Pro-Am class entry following the mid-race pit stops.
Travis got passed by the No. 33 Blackdog Racing McLaren Artura GT4 of Michael Cooper with less than five minutes to go for the class lead and claim a sweep of the Pro-Am weekend for he and Tony Gaples.
The Pro-Am championship, however, went to the No. 94 Random Vandals BMW of Green and Craven with a fourth place class finish, but crucially third place points due to the Nolasport Porsche being invisible this weekend because of a final round change of its Am driver.
It marked Random Vandals’ third SRO America title in two days, with the Paul Sparta-owned team also taking the GT World Challenge America powered by AWS Pro class championship with Koch and Connor De Phillippi following Saturday’s Indianapolis 8 Hour presented by AWS.
The No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche of Jan Heylen finished third in Pro-Am in the race, despite a hard-charging Heylen that nearly gave the class title to his co-driver Curt Swearagin for a second consecutive year.
While title contenders Anthony Geraci and Kenny Schmeid took Am class honors in the race, it wasn’t enough to overthrow BimmerWorld’s James Clay and Charlie Postins, who with their runner-up result took the championship.
It marked the duo’s third Am class title in four years.
The No. 413 Flying Lizard Motorsports BMW completed the Am class podium in the race.
