Sheena Monk has been confirmed for the full IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season in Myers Riley Motorsports’ Ford Mustang GT3 EVO.
The FIA Bronze-rated driver, who was initially announced for the Michelin Endurance Cup races, had been working towards a full-time program in the team’s GTD class entry.
“I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to complete the entire season with Myers Riley,” said Monk.
“It’s taken a little longer than we would have liked to firm up the news, but there are a lot of moving parts, and I’m just grateful that we were able to get everything in place.”
She is expected to join Felipe Fraga, who is able to contest all but two of the races as the team’s professional driver, in the No. 16 entry.
The duo are joined by Ford Racing Driver Development Team member Jenson Altzman in this weekend’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, with Altzman previously confirmed to contest the Endurance Cup races.
Monk’s inclusion for the full season ensures she can fight for IMSA’s Bob Akin Award, which has been a key target of car owner Ross Myers, who along with the Bill Riley-led team, are hoping to take the program to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The Akin Award winner receives an auto-invite to the French endurance classic.
“We’re going to be full push towards winning the Bob Akin Award and trying to bring the Mustang to Le Mans,” said Monk.
“I know that was a really big priority for not just me, but also for Bill Riley and Ross Myers.
“That’s why this felt like such a good fit with the team, everybody is on the same page, and I’m hoping to get another Mustang over there and fight for something there.
“I know that Bill may have a little bit of unfinished business in France. Mr. Myers is a curator of historic Ford vehicles, and I think it’s important for him to finally get a car that is his own over there.
“So hopefully, together as a group, we can achieve that. I am fully committed to the program, I’m happy with the environment here, and I am excited to pursue this goal together.”
Fraga is due to miss the rounds at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway due to his European Le Mans Series commitments in CLX Motorsport’s LMP2 Pro-Am entry.
A replacement driver for those rounds has not yet been announced.
