The opening Pirelli GT4 America race of the weekend at Road America has been called off due to severe weather.
SRO America officials made the call after initially starting the race under the safety car from pit lane before throwing the red flag before the completion of a lap.
It came after a checkered flag some 20 minutes early on the GT World Challenge America powered by AWS race, which was red-flagged just past the halfway point due to lightning in the area.
Thunderstorms impacted track action this afternoon at the four-mile Wisconsin circuit, which saw a shortened McLaren Trophy America race and a rain-soaked GT America powered by AWS race, before the first Toyota GR Cup North America round of the weekend, which was run in drying conditions.
A second storm front then arrived, halting GTWC America action after 14 laps of racing, with a decision made to not resume any race action for the remainder of the day.
A bulletin issued by the stewards confirmed that the GT4 America race will be made up during the next event at Barber Motorsports Park.
Road America Race 2 is currently set to get underway Sunday at 11:25 a.m. CST with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
