SRO Motorsports Group has restarted plans for a Scandinavian GT4 series, confirming that a six-round championship will debut in 2019.
GT4 Scandinavia will run under licence from the SRO, which has partnered with Swedish racing driver, promoter and commentator Leif Lindstrom.
The provisional six-round schedule begins at Ring Knutstorp on May 3-4 before heading to Anderstorp Raceway, Skelleftea, Karlskoga Motorstadion, Rudskogen and Mantorp Park, with the finale on Oct. 4-5.
All six events will be staged alongside the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, to give GT4 Scandinavia a stable platform for its debut season.
Pro-Am and Am driver pairings will be permitted, and it will follow the same format as the German, French, South European and European GT4 series.
The announcement comes just a week after the SRO confirmed a new South European GT4 Series for next season, with events in France, Spain and Portugal.
Fourteen entries have already been submitted, including a number of established GT4 teams and seven different manufacturers.
“I am delighted to have partnered with Leif Lindstrom to create GT4 Scandinavia and am very excited to be launching next season,” said SRO founder and CEO Stephane Ratel.
“I know that Leif’s vast experience both on the track and off it will make him the ideal person to lead this venture. From our side, it is a great pleasure to see the GT4 platform continue its expansion.
“With GT4 Scandinavia adopting the same format that has achieved success elsewhere, I have no doubt that it will go from strength to strength in the coming years.”
The SRO previously announced a proposal for a GT4 Nordic European Cup to take place this year but shelved the plans ahead of its scheduled debut in June.
The Nordic championship was set to visit many of the same tracks as the new GT4 Scandinavia series.
