GruppeM Racing has firmed up plans to field a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in next February’s Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour.
The Hong Kong-based outfit will be making its fifth outing in the Intercontinental GT Challenge season opener, having scored two pole positions and two podium finishes since its first appearance at Mount Panorama in 2019.
Its solo entry, for which drivers are yet to be confirmed, will be fielded under the ‘Mercedes-AMG Team GMR’ banner and will interestingly sport the No. 888 that is more commonly associated with Triple Eight Racing.
In the 2024 running of the Bathurst 12H, GruppeM’s No. 130 machine finished eighth with Maro Engel, Felipe Fraga and David Reynolds.
Prior to that, the team had never failed to finish on the podium on the road, although a post-race penalty in 2020 cost it a second-place finish, meaning its third-place results in the 2019 and ’23 editions remain its highest finishes.
Engel continues to hold the record for the fastest Bathurst 12H qualifying time in history, a 2:00.8819 set last year.
