Origine Motorsport will pay tribute to Porsche’s 1981 victory in the Suzuka 1000km with the third and final retro livery for this year’s edition, with its car set to be driven by Alessio Picariello, Laurin Heinrich and Bastian Buus.
The white, pink and black design on the No. 6 Porsche 911 GT3 R is a direct recreation of the livery that adorned the Kremer Racing Porsche 935 K3 driven to victory by Henri Pescarolo and Bob Wollek in 1981.
That victory, which was Porsche’s second overall win in the event, was notable for being the first triumph for a foreign team and driver combination in the Suzuka 1000km. Prior to that race, only Japanese teams and drivers had won the race.
Origine’s retro design is the third and final to be presented by Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific ahead of the fourth round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, with Phantom Global Racing and Absolute Racing also sporting special liveries for the event.
“It’s brilliant to see Origine Motorsport competing in such an iconic race like Suzuka 1000km,” said Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific managing director Alexandre Gibot.
“We have closely worked with the team to support its development from its start in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia in 2021. What the squad has managed to achieve since then is nothing short of remarkable, with wins in endurance races like the Sepang 12 Hour and Shanghai 8 Hour, as well as back-to-back GT World Challenge Asia Championships.
“The team has also identified a very special livery to be inspired by for this year’s running – we can’t wait to see it on track in a few weeks!
“It’s an impressive Pro driver line-up for the Chinese outfit and we look forward to supporting them on-track during this gruelling enduro.”
All three of the drivers in the lineup for the No. 6 Porsche have previous history with Origine, with both Picariello and Buus driving for the team in GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS this year, alternating in the team’s No. 4 car alongside Lu Wei.
Heinrich, meanwhile, competed for the Chinese squad in both GTWC Asia and the Asian Le Mans Series last year.
