Nick Tandy led the way in the first on-track action for the Kyalami 9 Hour, putting Frikadelli Racing and Porsche atop the time sheets.
The Englishman reeled off a 1:42.386 late in the two-hour session in the No. 31 Porsche 911 GT3 R to edge out the No. 44 Strakka Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Lewis Williamson by 0.191 seconds.
The No. 18 KCMG Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 made it three different manufacturers in the top-three, followed by the team’s sister No. 35 entry in fourth.
The No. 76 R-Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage GT3 completed the top-five.
The session was red-flagged with 17 minutes remaining following a spin by Adrian Henry D’Silva, who beached the No. 43 Strakka Mercedes in the Turn 5 gravel trap.
Action resumed with 12 minutes to go, with no other major incidents reported.
A second paid test session is scheduled for 2 p.m. local time, followed by Free Practice in the evening.
