Factory BMW driver Neil Verhagen has been added to the lineup for Team KRC in next month’s Suzuka 1000km round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.
Verhagen will join KRC’s regular GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS pairing of Ruan Cunfan and Maxime Oosten aboard the team’s No. 89 BMW M4 GT3 EVO for the revived IGTC fixture at the famed Japanese track on Sept. 12-14.
The 24-year-old IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship regular will be making his Asian GT racing debut in what was the sole BMW team on last month’s provisional entry list, as the German manufacturer aims to defends its IGTC points lead.
Taiwanese squad KRC has scored two podium finishes in GTWC Asia this year with Ruan and Oosten, one in the opening round of the season at Sepang and the other at Buriram.
The duo sit equal-third in the standings with two weekends to go, having failed to score points in last month’s Fuji Speedway round.
A finalized entry list for the Suzuka 1000km is expected to be revealed next week, with the potential for more cars to be added on top of the 30 already announced.
It remains unclear if KRC will be joined by any further BMW entrants, with Team Studie, the only other team running the M4 GT3 EVO in GTWC Asia, sitting the race out.
