Rising Ford Supercars stars James Golding and Aaron Cameron will be part of history at Phillip Island in less than two weeks, set to contest the inaugural round of the Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia.

Golding and Cameron will drive a pair of Garry Rogers Motorsport-prepared Mustang Dark Horse Rs in the all-new one-make racing series, joining James Moffat in what will be a three-car GRM effort at Phillip Island.

The pair will compete in GRM’s traditional numbers, with Cameron to race under the No. 33 and race a brand-new Dark Horse R, while Golding will have No. 34 on the windows and drive the very-first Mustang that has been used for promotional and testing purposes over the past year.

Driving for the Blanchard Racing Team – the outfit that finished last in the 2025 Supercars Team’s Championship – Golding and Cameron have taken BRT to the top in the opening two rounds. In the first six races, the pair has racked up a number of outstanding qualifying efforts, including a front-row lock out in Sydney.

Golding and Cameron’s drive in the Mustang Cup Australia will be a reunion of sorts with GRM too. In recent years, both of them have raced with GRM in TCR Australia, Trans Am and S5000.

“It’s really cool to team up with GRM in the all new Mustang Cup category at Phillip Island,” said Golding.

“These cars look great. They aren’t far away from the production car, but have all the right racing gear that should make the racing close and competitive.

“Ford is clearly putting in a big effort across the motorsport world, and I am proud to represent such a respected brand.

“Any opportunity I get to drive a Ford, I take without thinking about it. Ford’s initiative to find the next crop of young talent though the Mustang Cup is a fantastic opportunity for all up and coming drivers in Australia.

“And it is always a privilege to go racing with the GRM team. The crew there are like family to me so it will be nice to slot back into the fold.”

Cameron added: “Barry called me and asked if I would do Mustang Cup, and I wasn’t sure to start, but when he said that I was going to be the No. 33, that was enough for me. I said yes straight away.

“To race the No. 33 for GRM is the ultimate. A lot of cool drivers have raced with that, including Scott McLaughlin, Garth Tander, Lee Holdsworth and even Jamie Whincup.

“That was the drawcard for me. I’ve raced with GRM in TCR and S5000, but never with #33. That is GRM’s number and I’m honored to have my name alongside it.

“Having Jimmy (Golding) and Moff in the team is also really cool. It’s going to be a great reunion.

“The Dark Horse Rs are simple, production car style, and I can already see that it’s going to be a fun weekend, racing with mates.”

The pair’s addition to the Mustang grid adds even more top end fire power to the category’s entry list, including Moffat and the Triple Eight-backed entry of Jack Perkins.

But this quartet of experienced stars might not have it all their own way, with a range of fast young guns keen to impress the Ford driver scouts.

The Mustang Cup Australia field will bolstered by a number of quality amateur drivers who will be competing for a number of exciting prizes through the year, including a 12-month lease of either a Ford Mustang or Ranger Raptor.

The inaugural round will take place at Phillip Island on March 27-29, part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.
