The inaugural champion of the new-for-2025 Mustang Cup Australia series will earn a prize test drive at the wheel of a Triple Eight Race Engineering-run Ford Mustang Supercar.

Triple Eight, which begins a new relationship with Ford in Australia’s premier touring car category next year, will host the post-season test at Queensland Raceway for the title winner of the top Dark Horse class in the newly-established series.

First announced by Ford back in June this year, Mustang Cup Australia will support GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS for five of its six rounds for its inaugural campaign, before hosting a standalone finale at Sandown Raceway.

“The introduction of the Mustang Cup to Australia is very exciting,” said Triple Eight team principal and managing director Jamie Whincup.

“More opportunities for younger drivers is a good thing for motorsport in this country, and there’s no doubt that it has the potential to unlock the next star of our sport.

“Whether you’re Triple Eight or another team you want to be the first to discover the next Broc [Feeney] or Will [Brown], and the Mustang Cup is going to be another place to find that driver who has the qualities to succeed at the top level.

“We’re pleased to offer the winner of the Mustang Cup a test day behind the wheel of a Supercar to give them a taste of what could be next for them.”

Mustang Cup Australia series manager Liam Curkpatrick added: “What a fantastic opportunity for our teams and drivers to strive for, the winner of Mustang Cup Australia testing a Triple Eight Supercar with the champion team.

“It really is the ultimate prize. We thank Jamie and Triple Eight for their support.

“The winner will be determined by the driver who scores the most points across the inaugural season, so it could be a young gun or a seasoned veteran.

“The test drive with Triple Eight will be Mustang Cup Australia’s main prize, and there will be a suite of other prizes on offer across all classes.”

The inaugural Mustang Cup Australis season is due to begin on March 27-29 at Phillip Island in support of the GTWC Australia curtain-raiser.
