The GT3 Pro class will be eliminated in GT World Challenge America next year, as part of a post-season overhaul to the championship that’s set to also feature one fewer round.

Announced by SRO Motorsports Group founder and CEO Stephane Ratel during Sunday evening’s worldwide awards night in Las Vegas, the 90-minute GT3 series will be exclusively focused on Pro-Am and Am entrants only.

Last weekend’s season-ending round at Las Vegas Motor Speedway featured only four GT3 Pro entries, with at least two of the cars set to depart the series at years’ end.

Ratel also announced a reduced six-event calendar that will provisionally kick off at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in May.

It’s understood the format of two races per weekend will remain unchanged.

R. Ferri Motorsport’s Toni Vilander won this year’s Pro class title and will therefore be ineligible for next year due to his Platinum driver rating.

The Pro-Am class enforces one Bronze-rated driver paired with either a Gold-or Silver-rated pilot.

Ratel told Sportscar365 that he’s still targeting an 18-car grid next year.
