Westin Workman topped the opening day of Toyota GR Cup North America practice at Barber Motorsports Park, setting the overall fastest lap time across a pair of practice sessions on Friday.
The current drivers’ championship points leader led the way in this morning’s first practice session, and despite Spike Kohlbecker initially topping the times in Practice 2, the BSI Racing driver improved mid-way through the session to bring his No. 13 Toyota GR86 Cup Car to the top of the pile, though he was unable to surpass his 1:37.878 lap from Practice 1.
Jeremy Fletcher finished the day second-fastest overall, after a quick lap early in this morning’s 30-minute practice session and coming within just 0.156 seconds of Workman’s time in his No. 22 Copeland Motorsports entry.
Notably, Fletcher’s best effort from Practice 2 also saw him finish second in the afternoon, a mere 0.036 seconds off of the BSI driver’s session-topping time.
Kohlbecker, in the No. 55 RVA Graphics Motorsports by Speed Syndicate Toyota, was third quickest overall, with his best lap from Practice 2 seeing him just over two tenths of a second off the overall pace.
Fellow RVA driver Will Robusto was fourth fastest in the No. 2 machine, with his fastest lap from Practice 1 seeing him finish Friday just ahead of Max Schweid’s No. 98 TechSport entry, who set his best time of the day in Practice 2.
Isabella Robusto returns to the GR Cup North America grid at Barber after last competing in the series as part of a double-header weekend where she contested the ARCA Menards Series race at Dover Speedway as well as the GR Cup weekend at Virginia International Raceway.
After finishing Practice 1 with the 18th-best time this morning, Robusto reeled off the non-quickest lap in Practice 2 this afternoon.
Both half-hour practice sessions ran green from start to finish.
Frst qualifying is scheduled to take place on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. CST ahead of the first race weekend at 1:40 p.m. CST.
