Westin Workman stormed to his second pole position of the Toyota GR Cup North America weekend, solidifying his spot at the front of the grid for Sunday’s Race 2 at Barber Motorsports Park.
The Race 1 winner and weekend pacesetter wasted no time getting to the top of the time sheets on his third lap before setting the fastest time of the weekend thus far, a 1:36.493, on his fourth attempt around the Alabama circuit.
Workman, more than half a second clear of the competition at the time, took to pit lane in his No. 13 BSI Racing Toyota GR86 Cup Car with six minutes remaining in the session, with his pole position effectively secured.
With no one able to best his time, Workman was awarded his second pole of the Barber weekend.
A late improvement from Ethan Goulart saw him come within 0.353 seconds of Workman’s pole time in No. 72 TechSport Toyota and finish second fastest in the 15-minute session.
Third fastest was Jeremy Fletcher, who improved on his final flying lap in the No. 22 Copeland Motorsports machine to leapfrog Max Schweid, who finished the session in fourth.
RVA Graphics Motorsports by Speed Syndicate’s Spike Kohlbecker rounded out the top five, just 0.533 seconds off Workman’s benchmark time.
Race 2 of the GR Cup weekend is slated for 10:05 a.m. CST with live streaming coverage available on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch, as well as GRCup.com.
