14 Entries for Sonoma Opener; Nearly 100 Cars for Event

A total of 14 GT3 cars are set for next month’s Fanatec GT World Challenge season-opening round at Sonoma Raceway, which will feature nearly 100 cars total across four SRO America series.

The preliminary entry list for the kickoff event includes several yet-to-be-announced programs in GTWC America, including an Acura NSX GT3 Evo from Compass Racing and Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evos fielded by both TR3 Racing and Rearden Racing.

The entry represents a doubling of the 2020 average field, which oftentimes featured single-digit car counts.

Driver lineups have yet to be released by the series organizers, although Sportscar365 understands there are currently only two Pro class entries in the previously announced K-PAX Racing Lamborghinis.

Rolex 24 at Daytona GT Daytona class winners Winward Racing, meanwhile, is also listed to take part in the Sonoma weekend with its Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo along with Pirelli GT4 America squads Rearden (Lamborghini) and Ian Lacy Racing (Aston Martin Vantage GT3) that are making the step up.

They join the three-car DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo effort long with a solo Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 from AF Corse, an Acura fielded by Racers Edge Motorsports, Wright Motorsports’ Porsche 911 GT3 R and a Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3.

Strong Entry Lists in GT America, GT4 America

A total of 21 cars are entered for the new-for-2021 GT America powered by AWS series, which will feature single Bronze-rated driver lineups in GT2, GT3 and GT4-spec machinery.

However, no GT2 cars are entered for the Sonoma round.

Pirelli GT4 America, which will exclusively run to the two-driver SprintX formula this year, meanwhile, currently sees a series-high 32-car field, including multiple new entries to the series.

The Sonoma weekend will also serve as the opening round for the new-look TC America powered by Skip Barber series, headlined by a two-car entry in the new TCX class, which replaces TCR.

Fully entry lists with drivers and additional entries are expected closer to the buildup of the March 5-7 event.
