Campbell, Imperato Lose Pro-Am Race 1 Win Due to Penalty

The No. 91 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R has been stripped of its Pro-Am class win in Saturday’s first Blancpain GT World Challenge round at Las Vegas Motor Speedway following a post-race penalty issued.

A 22-second time addition, the equivalent of a drive-through penalty, has been added to the Matt Campbell and Anthony Imperato-driven Porsche following an incident between Campbell and the No. 5 Gradient Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo of Marc Miller.

The two cars made contact while battling for the class lead, which sent the Gradient Acura off into the grass.

“It was a misunderstanding on his behalf,” Campbell told Sportscar365 prior to receiving the news of the penalty.

“I got an overlap. He turned into Turn 4, we made contact, he went flying off into the weeds. I stayed on track, I got past.”

The penalty has dropped Campbell and Imperato to third in the class, handing the Pro-Am win to Dane Cameron and Mike Hedlund.

It marked the RealTime Racing duo’s fifth consecutive class win of the season.

The second post-race incident under review, between the No. 80 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura of Kyle Marcelli and Renger van der Zande’s Squadra Corse Ferrari, has resulted in Marcelli being handed a post-race penalty as well.

It dropped Pro-Am championship leaders Marcelli and Martin Barkey to a sixth place finish in class.
