Lars Viljoen will start tomorrow’s inaugural Pirelli World Challenge SprintX round from the overall pole, after taking the top spot in qualifying Friday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Viljoen reeled off a best lap of 1:16.558 in his No. 4 De La Torre Racing Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, outpacing the No. 46 Mills Racing BMW Z4 GT3 of Michael Mills by a considerable 1.426 seconds.
Viljoen will share driving duties with team owner Jorge De La Torre in tomorrow’s 60-minute race, which will feature a mandatory pit stop and driver change.
The No. 14 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R of Brent Holden qualified third, ahead of Walt Bowlin’s No. 23 M1 GT Racing Audi R8 LMS in fourth.
The sister M1 GT Audi of Dion von Moltke and David Ostella did not set a time in qualifying.
In GTS, Max Riddle took his No. 07 TRG-AMR Aston Martin Vantage GT4 to the top spot, in a 1-2 sweep for the Kevin Buckler-led team.
Riddle will share driving duties with Kris Wilson tomorrow.
The No. 09 Aston Martin of Derek DeBoer was second on the time sheets, followed by Chris Beaufait in the No. 45 Racers Edge Motorsports SIN R1 GT4 in third.
A total of eight cars are expected to take the green for Round 1, which gets underway Saturday at 5:45 p.m. ET.
