Mikael Grenier posted the quickest time in the second and final practice session prior to qualifying for this weekend’s GT World Challenge America powered by AWS races at Road America.
Grenier took the No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo to a fast lap of 2:04.701, which topped the time charts in Friday afternoon’s session but was not quicker than Matt Bell’s pace-setting 2:04.372 lap from the morning session in his DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R.
The Mercedes-AMG factory driver, however, edged out the Pro-Am class pace-setting No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R of Tom Sargent by 0.295 seconds in Practice 2.
Bell ended up third in the session, with Philip Ellis and Jan Heylen completing the overall top five for Regulator Racing and RS1, respectively.
Ozz Negri was quickest in the Am class in the No. 163 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3, which was eighth overall.
The session was halted with 18 minutes to go when the No. 24 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo of Darren Turner made contact with the wall at The Kink.
The AF Corse Ferrari of Jay Schreibman also stopped on track for a period of time before the resumption of the session with seven minutes to go. The Ferrari, however, returned to the track with no apparent damage.
Qualifying is scheduled for Saturday at 9:25 a.m. CST with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
