New Two-Car Ferrari Team Unveiled

The growth in Blancpain GT World Challenge America has continued, with confirmation of a new two-car Ferrari effort for the SRO Motorsports America-run championship.

Ferrari Challenge outfit One11 Competition will make the step up to GT3 competition this year, fielding Ferrari 488 GT3 cars in the Pro-Am and Am classes.

GT racing veteran Matt Plumb will team up with Alfred Caiola in the No. 99 Ferrari, with Chris Cagnazzi and Brian Kaminskey set to share driving duties of the No. 19 car, which will compete for Am class honors.

The effort is spearheaded by Peter Spinella, who has elevated his New York-based team into the professional ranks for the first time.

“This driver lineup is well-tenured in Ferrari Challenge, with a lot of good results there, and this is a new step up for them and it is really exciting for us as a group,” said Spinella. 

“We are a new team, but we are pulling resources from all over the world and have a lot of very experienced people on board.

“Not only the crew, but also engineers with us who have experience with this specific (GT3) platform. We were able to go to the factory, get training with the car, and actually go test while we were there so that gave us a very big jump in our progression.

“So far, the car has been amazing.”

Cagnazzi started his racing career in 2014 in a Ferrari 458 Challenge EVO, claiming ten podiums and five wins in his first full Ferrari Challenge season. He went on to claim a dominating victory on the international stage with his victory in the Finali Mondiali World Finals at Mugello Italy.

The Cagnazzi-Kaminskey combination grew out of a friendly rivalry in the highly competitive single-make series.

Caiola, meanwhile, has more than two decades of motorsports experience, having raced in Ferrari Challenge, Challenge Club Racing, Global Mazda MX-5 Cup and earned multiple class wins and podiums.

He will join former IMSA champion Plumb at the wheel of the Pro-Am class entry.

The team will kick off its campaign next month at Circuit of The Americas.
