Spencer Pumpelly will make his debut with RealTime Racing beginning with this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge round at Mid-Ohio, with team owner Peter Cunningham electing to step out of his Acura TLX GT.
Cunningham, a seven-time PWC champion, will instead assist with development of the new Acura NSX GT3, which is set to make its public on-track debut in testing and practice this weekend.
Pumpelly joins Ryan Eversley at the wheel of the TLX GT cars, which are coming off a strong run in the last round at Road America, which saw Eversley sweep the weekend.
“I am thrilled to be joining RealTime Racing this weekend in Ohio and excited to become part of the Acura family,” Pumpelly said.
“The team and brand have achieved tremendous success in the series and it’s an honor to be able to work with all the people involved.
“The Acura TLX is an amazing car which should do well around the tight turns of Mid-Ohio. The team has been a huge help in getting me comfortable in the car and I’m eager to get on track with it.”
Pumpelly will drive the No. 43 Acura in the next two events at Mid-Ohio and Utah Motorsports Complex.
The following round in Sonoma is a conflict with his IMSA commitments, which races at Circuit of The Americas that weekend, although it’s unclear if he will return for the season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
