Scott Dollahite has shifted into a team manager role with Dollahite Racing, which sees the Texas-based squad step up to the Pro class of GT World Challenge America powered by AWS with two new drivers.

The 36-year-old has stood down from full-time GTWC America driving duties after contending for the Am class title last year in the team’s Ford Mustang GT3, which now features the all-new lineup of Cameron Lawrence and Alex Sedgwick, as well as the upgraded EVO package.

As he explained to Sportscar365, the decision was made as part of a “long term” goal for the team and its manufacturer partner Ford Racing, in order to fight for overall honors.

“We did some testing in the off season with the EVO package,” he said. “We tested a few drivers, and Cameron Lawrence and Alex Sedgwick really stuck out.

“They meshed really well with the team. They both had a lot that they could bring to the table and work well together and improve the program moving forward.

“I made the decision to step into the team manager role and let them help develop everything.

“It was more of a long-term decision.”

Dollahite, who replaces his father Bill on the pit box, said he’s looking to lead the team into the next decade.

“We’re not just looking at this year; we’re really trying to focus on what the next five years will play out,” he said. “We’re in it for the long haul.”

Both Lawrence and Sedgwick bring considerable GT3 experience to the operation but are both new to the Multimatic-built GT3 car, which is set to embark on its second GTWC America season.

Sedgwick is coming off a successful rookie campaign in the series at the wheel of RS1’s Porsche 911 GT3 R, also in the Pro class.

When asked what he would consider to be a successful first weekend in Pro, Dollahite stressed that they’re looking to build momentum for the season ahead.

“A successful weekend for us, since the EVO package is so new, we’ll get faster and faster,” he said. “Obviously the goal is to win.

“That’s another cool thing with having Cameron and Alex both working with us is that they have so much experience and knowledge with engineering new cars and things like that.

“But I think just having a good baseline setup with the car. We have a bunch of new people on our crew as well.

“So getting everybody to mesh well together and just carry whatever momentum we have here forward to COTA is going to be our main weekend goal.”

Dollahite Set for GT America Program Beginning at COTA

After initially appearing on the full season GT America entry list but not being listed for this weekend’s season opener at Sonoma Raceway, Dollahite confirmed he will get back behind the wheel in the single driver sprint races later this season.

He indicated it will be in the team’s original chassis, which has been repaired since its Road America accident last year and also upgraded to EVO specification.

“I do plan to getting back in the car,” he said. “What we’re trying to do is to bring Ford Racing into as many categories as possible in SRO.

“With that, I’ll be in GT America starting at COTA. It’s going to help our entire program.”
