WC Vision announced today quick growth of its newly announced Pirelli World Challenge GT Cup class.
Starting in 2015, the class will integrate the introduction of Porsche 991 Cup Cars and will run as part of the overall GT Class races, with a separate victory circle presentation alongside that of the GT/GT-A class winners.
“Back on August 29th when we officially announced GT Cup, our aim was to confirm between 10-15 entries by the end of 2014/early 2015 and I am pleased to say that we are ahead of schedule with seven entries already confirmed,” said Scott Bove, President & CEO, WC Vision/Pirelli World Challenge. “I’m confident that we will achieve our goal for entries in the class.”
New teams joining the series to run in GT Cup include two entries from NGT Racing, and one entry from Joe Aquilante/Phoenix Performance.
TruSpeed Motorsports returns to the series with two entries, and 2014 Pirelli World Challenge GTS racer Mitch Landry, and another GTS team will be stepping up to GT Cup in 2015.
“We are very pleased with the overwhelming response to the introduction of the GT Cup class,” said Jens Walther, President & CEO, Porsche Motorsports North America. “This class has been joined by existing PWC GTS drivers and drivers from other series to compete at some of the best GT race venues in the country.”
A Pirelli tire test for the new class is planned for the end of 2014.
