Toni Vilander has officially clinched the Blancpain GT World Challenge America drivers’ championship following the publication of official points from last month’s second race at Road America.
The Finn, who had teamed with Daniel Serra for a second-place overall finish in that race, had provisionally earned enough points to lock-up the title ahead of this weekend’s season finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
However, a protest and later appeal by K-PAX Racing regarding a late-race yellow had kept the results provisional.
A SRO Motorsports America spokesperson confirmed to Sportscar365 that sanctioning body USAC has has denied K-PAX’s appeal and have upheld SRO’s decision, which confirms the results and points from the race.
While Vilander has clinched the drivers’ championship, R. Ferri Motorsport holds a 14-point lead over K-PAX heading into this weekend’s pair of 90-minute races.
Vilander will be rejoined by fellow Ferrari factory driver Miguel Molina, who he started the season with, this weekend.
