Barwell Motorsport has signed longtime Porsche GTE driver Ben Barker to headline its Gold Cup lineup for Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup.
The Briton will team up with Bronze-rated driver Alex Malykhin, who is set for his second year in sports car racing.
The lineup is completed by James Dorlin, continuing his existing partnership with Malykhin from their time in the British GT Cup Championship last year.
Barker spent multiple seasons in WEC racing with GR Racing. Earlier this year, he joined Dinamic Motorsport for the Asian Le Mans Series in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The 30-year-old has almost exclusively raced Porsche machinery in his career but is now set for a switch to the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo.
“I’m excited for this season, for me to drive something other than a Porsche brings a new challenge I am totally ready for,” Barker said. “We have a competitive line up with a hugely experienced team. I can’t wait to race.”
Malykhin will be making his GTWC Europe debut with the team after completing his first full season of sportscar racing, competing in the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB.
Dorlin also previously competed in the one-make series and raced a McLaren 570S GT4 together with Malykhin.
“It’s a privilege for me to have this opportunity with Barwell Motorsport in GT World Challenge,” he said.
“I’m new to GT3 racing but absolutely ready and cannot wait to compete against top drivers on some of the best circuits in Europe!
“The Lamborghini is a proven winner and our aim is to do just that in 2022!”
