Belgian Audi Club Team WRT has ended Saturday’s Blancpain Endurance Series on-track activities at Silverstone on top, after leading the way in both Free Practice and Pre-Qualifying for tomorrow’s second round of the season.
The No. 1 Audi R8 LMS ultra of Jean-Karl Vernay, Laurens Vanthoor and Robin Frijns ended up quickest of the day, thanks to a 2:01.097 set in the 90-minute Pre-Qualifying session.
The time was 0.083 seconds quicker than the No. 12 TDS Racing BMW Z4 GT3 Eric Dermont, Franck Perera and Henry Hassid, which was second overall and quickest of the Pro-Am Cup competitors.
Third quickest in Pre-Qualifying was the No. 6 Phoenix Racing Audi, another Pro Cup car, with the No. 63 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and No. 58 Von Ryan McLaren 650S GT3 completing the top-five overall.
The No. 16 AKKA-ASP Ferrari led the Am Cup class again, thanks to a 2:03.838 lap time by Fabien Barthez, which put it 43rd in the overall classification.
The session saw three red flags, all for stopped cars. Both of the Attempto McLarens stopped on track in separate incidents, while the No. 14 Emil Frey Jaguar was also stranded for the second time today.
Qualifying gets underway Sunday at 9 a.m. local, followed by the race at 2:45 p.m.
