Boutsen Ginion Belgian Red Devils Project Canceled

Last week’s terror attacks in Brussels have indirectly halted Boutsen Ginon Racing’s ambitious Blancpain Sprint Cup project for the season-opener at Misano next week.

The idea was to dress Boutsen’s BMW M6 GT3 in the colors of the Belgian national soccer team, the Red Devils, to show support for their upcoming Euro Cup campaign.

The project was supported by BMW Belgium, an official sponsor the Belgian Red Devils.

Fellow countrymen Maxime Martin and Marc Goossens were due to drive the car in Misano next week.

The project was supposed to be revealed on Tuesday evening with a demo run during the halftime intermission of the game against Portugal.

Due to last week’s terror attacks in Brussels, the match was relocated to Portugal, where the impact of the presentation would have been minimal.

Pascal Witmeur, one of the backers of the project, was also the man behind the special ‘Racing Against Cancer’ Marc VDS entry in last year’s Total 24 Hours of Spa.

It’s not clear if the Belgian team will still have a car on the grid for the Sprint Cup season-opener.
