Mercedes-AMG have been crowned inaugural winners of the global Blancpain GT World Challenge, with the German manufacturer and drivers honored during SRO Motorsports Group’s awards night Sunday in Las Vegas.
The new-for-2019 title combined nominated drivers’ results from manufacturers’ customer racing efforts in GT World Challenge Europe, America and Asia over the course of each season.
Mercedes-AMG ended up accumulating 13,380 points to Ferrari, which was the only other registered manufacturer with eligible cars in all three of the SRO’s sprint-based championships this year.
Head of Mercedes-AMG customer racing Stefan Wendl, along with several of the manufacturer’s nominated drivers, took the stage at the Bellagio Hotel to accept their awards.
Among the drivers that contributed to the title included Raffaele Marciello and Luca Stolz (Europe), Colin Braun and Ryan Dalziel (America) and Christina Nielsen (Asia).
“My sincere appreciation goes out to our customer racing teams and drivers for having enabled us to win this title with numerous achievements in the SRO series,” said Wendl.
“This reflects the strength of our worldwide customer racing program with the Mercedes-AMG GT3.
“Therefore, winning the Blancpain GT World Challenge manufacturers’ title really means a lot to us. We are looking forward to taking on the challenge again next year and we will do our utmost to defend our title.”
