Optimum Plotting Two-Car World Challenge Expansion

British GT championship-winning team Optimum Motorsport is planning to expand its operations into the GT World Challenge Europe series next season.

Having been a regular in the British GT ranks since 2012, the English squad is aiming to add a new continental program to its national racing endeavors.

This is set to include a two-car Aston Martin Vantage GT3 entry in the reformatted World Challenge, which is to cover both the Endurance Cup and World Challenge sprint formats of the current Blancpain GT Series.

“It’s the right time for us to broaden our range of championships,” said Optimum Motorsport team principal Shaun Goff.

“We have had a great run of success with both the original Aston Martin GT3 and with the new Vantage and with the infrastructure we now have in place and operational, we’re very much looking forward to racing in the Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe next season.

“We continue to grow as a team, we wouldn’t be taking this step without the resource and manpower to compete at this level.

“It will be a learning curve, but like any other championship, we go there with the expectations and aspirations to challenge from the outset.”

Optimum is set to continue in both the GT3 and GT4 classes of British GT next season, although exact details of its full 2020 program have yet to be announced.

The team, which is co-managed by Goff and sports car veteran Bas Leinders, has also contested the last two seasons of the International GT Open series.
