The No. 12 GPX Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R has been fast all year but the real test comes in the form of the ever-brutal Total 24 Hours of Spa later this month.
In this week’s Pirelli Paddock Pass, Porsche factory driver Mathieu Jaminet talks ahead of the event where we will share the car with GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS co-drivers Matt Campbell and Patrick Pilet.
What’s your assessment of how the Spa test went?
“Spa test day went well despite some difficult weather conditions for testing.
“For sure it’s always nice to be quickest but it doesn’t mean much… Let’s see during race week as we can have a lot of rain.”
Despite being quickest at the test are there any grey areas you still need to refine during the race weekend?
“For sure you can always improve as a team, and there is still some process where we can be better.
“The team is pushing hard for that and I’m sure we will be ready.”
Do you have any takeaways from last year’s 24H Spa race that you bring into this year?
“Of course last year’s race was very successful for Porsche and we learned a lot in different conditions.
“We might have the weather this year so last year analysis is crucial.”
Where do you think are the strengths of the GPX Porsche squad and your co-drivers compared to other teams?
“We are lucky at GPX car No. 12 to have, from my opinion, one of the strongest driver line ups.
“We are all 3 able to do the job on track but also on setup as we all rely on each other.
“We are not afraid of all types of conditions and every driver will give the maximum out there.”
Do the strong results you have had this year reflect the true speed of the car or is there something holding back more potential?
“I think the GTWC campaign showed that Porsche is strong this year.
“We are always working and trying to improve our package.
“I don’t know how big our potential still is, but you should always push to improve.”
Where do your expectations lay for Spa?
“Win!”
