Sportscar365 is asking drivers from around the world what they’re doing during the COVID-19 pandemic and how they’re coping with the racing downtime.
This edition features GT3 regular Jake Dennis (Twitter/Instagram), who competes for R-Motorsport in GT3 racing around the world and formed part of its DTM lineup last year.
Where are you sitting out the COVID-19 crisis?
I’m currently back in the UK living at home.
Do you do any sim racing? If so, tell us a bit about your setup and what games you use.
As much as I would like to take part in all the sim racing I’m currently not able to. I have a sim on order but it is yet to arrive.
So at the moment I’m just playing on the Call Of Duty games with some other drivers until my sim arrives.
What kind of TV, music, books are you passing the time with in lockdown?
I’m a Netflix fan. I don’t tend to watch ordinary TV. Just series.
My latest series is Ozark. It’s helping me stay entertained and get me through the COVID-19 situation.
I absolutely love music, and I’m pretty flexible when it comes to what I listen to, but house music and hip-hop are definitely my favourite.
I’ve never really been much of a reader but the books I tend to read are about the military and war history. I find it super interesting hearing about what it takes to be one of the best in the business.
What are you doing to maintain your fitness level?
Home workouts are a daily routine for me right now. I don’t have any weights at my household which is a shame as I really enjoy strength training and not so much cardio.
However, I just get by and try and stay as healthy and as fit as possible. My current challenge I’m on right now is 300 press-ups a day for 30 days.
Is there a track/race still on your ‘bucket list’ that you would like to race one day?
The one race track that stands out that I still haven’t driven is the Nürburgring Nordschleife. It looks insane and every driver talks about how difficult and amazing it is at the same time.
I would love to take part in the 24-hour race on the Nordschleife with R-Motorsport one day.
What’s the one thing you currently can’t do/have that you miss the most, other than racing?
Going to my favourite restaurants with my friends. I love good food and company so I’m looking forward to things starting to reopen, whenever that will be!
What’s the one thing you are most looking forward to the first day you return to a race track?
Other than jumping in the car and doing my first laps behind the wheel of the R-Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage, I’m just looking forward to seeing everyone again.
The motorsport world is a small community, but we’re all the same and just enjoy racing. It’s our passion.
So when you have 30 to 40 people all together wanting the same thing it creates a special environment which you can’t replicate anywhere else.
