SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm has revealed plans to step into GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS after an overhaul of its racing activities that will see the team step away from ADAC GT Masters and GT4 Germany.
The team, which has its home base in Niederzissen, not far from the Nürburgring, campaigned Mercedes-AMG machinery in national championships in recent years.
It notably won the overall GT4 Germany with Jay-Mo Haertling and Enrico Foederer this past season and also competed in the Nürburgring 24, taking an SP9 Pro-Am podium finish in last year’s fog-shortened edition.
Although the team had already communicated its intention to return to both GT Masters and GT4 Germany next year, on Wednesday it announced that it will discontinue the plans.
“Unfortunately, despite all our successes and titles in Germany in recent years, we have not been able to make the leap into professional motorsport,” said team principal Thomas Angeler.
“Even Enrico Foerderer, despite maximum sporting success and great financial support, has not managed to join Motorsport Team Germany.
“This means that the “Road to DTM” concept is not working for us.
“When drivers between the ages of 16 and 18 finish all championships with titles and victories and still fail to make the step up despite maximum discipline and enormous personal commitment, our only option is to try our luck on the international stage.
“I hope and wish that one of our young drivers will make the leap into a professional league, and I will do everything I can to pave the way for these young wild ones.
“If there are any supporters for young German talent in the international arena, they are welcome to contact me.
“We are now going to break new ground!”
In addition to its GTWC Europe move, the team is also planning to compete in GT4 European Series powered by Rafa Racing Club.
Further information on its programs will be announced at a later date.
