End of an Era: 22 Years of Sports Car Racing on FOX/SPEED

A look back at FOX Sports/SPEED’s 22-year run covering sports car racing…

Last weekend’s Motul Petit Le Mans marked the end of an era for sports car racing coverage on FOX Sports, and in its previous iterations, Speedvision and SPEED Channel, with the final race broadcast following a remarkable 22-year run.

Led by executive producer Frank Wilson, who joined Speedvision in 1996, the network had been the home of the American Le Mans Series, Grand-Am and 24 Hours of Le Mans, and most recently the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Among the achievements included becoming the first, and to this day only network to carry the “Grand Slam” of endurance racing, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Le Mans and Petit Le Mans, live in their entirety.

The long-running production team put together a retrospective (above), which closed out Saturday’s broadcast.
