Ryan Dalziel paced the opening practice of the weekend for Pirelli World Challenge at Long Beach, setting the fastest time of 1:18.994 in his No. 2 CRP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.

The Scotsman jumped back to the top of the time sheets in the closing minutes of the one-hour session and fended off Porsche Factory ace Patrick Long in the No. 58 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R by just 0.148 seconds.

Dalziel, who is also racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship event this weekend, finished second in the Prototype class in the first practice of the day for that series.

Alvaro Parente led a K-PAX Racing 3-4, edging Bryan Sellers in the team’s sister McLaren 650S GT3, while Johnny O’Connell completed the top-five in the No. 3 Cadillac ATS-V.R.

The top 11 cars all posted times within one second of Dalziel’s pace-setting lap.

James Sofronas led the GTA category in his GMG Racing Porsche.

The session ran trouble free and all 23 cars on the entry list turned laps.

PWC returns to the track tomorrow from 8:45-9:05 a.m. PT before qualifying for Sunday’s race from 9:20-9:45 a.m. PT.

RESULTS: Practice 1
