Adderly Fong narrowly edged out Johnny O’Connell to earn his second career Pirelli World Challenge pole at Road America.

The previous pole position for the Hong Kong national came at Road America last year.

Fong’s pace-setting lap of 2:04.223 in the No. 88 Absolute Racing Bentley Continental GT3 was a mere 0.029 seconds faster than O’Connell in the No. 3 Cadillac Racing Cadillac ATS-V.R.

Jon Fogarty continued his strong weekend in the No. 99 Porsche 911 GT3 R for GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing, turning in the third fastest lap 0.219 seconds off of Fong’s quick time.

Fellow Porsche runner Patrick Long will start fourth for Wright Motorsports, with Daniel Mancinelli fifth in the No. 31 TR3 Racing Ferrari 488 GT3.

GTA class honors went to James Sofronas in the GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R. He will start 14th overall.

GT Cup meanwhile saw just Yuki Harata complete a lap in his Dream Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo.

The session was cut short by a fire at the rear of the No. 04 De La Torre Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in the final minute with Jorge De La Torre behind the wheel.

It was not immediately clear to what extent the car was damaged and its status for Race 1 is up in the air.

The first race of the weekend is this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. CT with live coverage available at world-challenge.com and Motor Trend onDemand.
